The Stockholm region has for a long time been a leader in green digital transition, using the innovation capacity within new green technology to foster business opportunities and economic growth. To reach the goals of 2040 and 2050, the transition of transportation system, is crucial. A sustainable transport system is a key component in achieving the ambitions and objectives of the European Green Deal. Efforts to develop sustainable infrastructure are ongoing at both local and regional levels, with investments in all types of transport to support growth and enhance connectivity.
The Stockholm Region EU Office has been located in Brussels for 30 years and is continuously advocating for a sustainable, smart, and competitive transition at an EU level from a local and regional perspective. At the same time, advocating for a just and inclusive transition, taking perspectives such as gender equality and skills into account. In line with these efforts, the Stockholm region EU office advocates on the basis of three key areas; sustainable growth, competitiveness and innovation.
During the following mandate period of 2025-2030 the office focuses on EU legislation concerning sustainable competitiveness and a just transition, such as the initiatives of the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan (STIP), the High Speed Rail Plan, Clean industrial Deal and the Circular Economy Act.
For example, key areas of focus include transport infrastructure capacity, the interconnection of transport corridors, mobility, electrification, digitalization, clean technology development, sustainable financing, and investments in climate-smart solutions for the European transport sector by 2050.
In the field of digitalisation and mobility, the focus is on sustainable charging infrastructure, digital transport services, innovative technology development, as well as interoperability and intelligent transport systems (ITS). Additionally, data management and sharing as well as connected and autonomous vehicles, are key priorities.
